Personal Impressions of Mission Beach

In this article I will tell you about my personal impressions of Mission Beach. I can already tell you that I cannot say anything negative about Mission Beach.

Although Mission Beach is very small, I liked it very much. There are many small shops for shopping, bars and restaurants to relax after an adventurous day. However, as in the previous articles, I advise you to always travel by car, as the distances are not to be underestimated and you will have to walk a lot. But apart from walking along the beach and having a swim, there is not much you can do.

So I suggest you take the water taxi to Dunk Island for the day.  Dunk Island is very beautiful and also really exciting. The first thing you will encounter is an abandoned resort. Even if you can’t go into the houses, it is still very exciting to see it from the outside. Since I had never seen a ghost town or something like that before I was completely fascinated and would have loved to go inside.

After the resort you can choose to walk up to the viewpoint or walk to Muggy Muggy Beach. In any case both are worth it. The way up to the view point is partly very steep and there are also not really tarred paths, but I think that makes hiking up there even more adventurous. A little warning on the island there are also snakes and therefore you should always look where you step! Once you reach the top you will have a beautiful view of Dunk Island and the neighbouring islands. There is also something special up there, but I don’t want to tell you about it to give you the surprise. I want you to find out for yourself 😉

If you want to have a beach all to yourself, I recommend you to walk to Muggy Muggy Beach on Dunk Island. This beach is very small and few people get lost there. You can also lie on the beach under the palm trees, listen to the sound of the sea and just enjoy the “Dolce far niente”. With a little skill you can grab a coconut and break it open, so you even have a snack and a soft drink 😉

I also found Charley’s Chocolate Factory very worthwhile and would warmly recommend it to you. But to take part in a tour, you have to register online on their homepage. The tour was really informative and tells the story of how they came up with the idea to grow cocoa beans in Australia and make chocolate from them. I learned a lot about chocolate and cocoa beans on this tour and did you know that the pulp of the cocoa bean is very sweet but is not consumed at all because it is very small. We were allowed to taste the pulp on the tour and it was delicious. It is actually a pity that the pulp is not consumed.

If we had had several more days in Mission Beach, I would have liked to go to Tully for another day or go to Paronella Park or the Mamu Tropical skywalk. All three things were recommended to us by the tourist information center and sounded very exciting when I read the different brochures about them. Tully is known for river rafting. I would have liked to have one more action day. The Paronella Park is a park with a castle and waterfalls and looked quite exciting in the photos. The Mamu Tropical Skywalk allows visitors to explore the rainforest from the forest floor to the canopy, in comfort and safety. The walkway passes through one of the largest remaining continuous stands of complex vine forest on basalt soils in the Wet Tropics. If I should ever go to Mission Beach, I already know exactly what I have to catch up on there.

Besides, I still have a personal mission to do there. The first time in Australia my parents went to Mission Beach to taste wine. In a winery I tasted wine made from fruit for the first time and I found it to be the best dessert wine I have ever tasted. The label had reef fish and corals on it. I looked everywhere for this particular wine but couldn’t find it. I left Mission Beach very disappointed not to find the wine.  I would be very happy if you think you have found this wine or know its name and could tell me.

You see, Mission Beach offers a lot and therefore I am not surprised that I have only positive things to say about it and would like to return. If you liked the article, give it a Like. Even better you follow my blog, so you can be the first one to know when a new article is published. Therefore: stay tuned!

(Ps. Mission Beach is great for watching the sunrise and sunset.)
